Brand Basics

Lightweight visual and verbal consistency without a full rebrand project.

Profile Checklist
Persona and Audience

Brand Basics

You do not need a 40-page brand book. You need recognizable repeats: colors, words, and layouts that make you look intentional across posts and platforms.

Minimum brand kit

Element
Minimum viable
Colors1 primary + 1 neutral (hex codes saved)
Fonts1 for graphics (system sans is fine)
LogoWordmark or monogram for avatars
Photos3–5 approved images you reuse
Words5 phrases you use; 5 you avoid
Save these in one note titled "Brand defaults."

Visual consistency on social

  • Carousels: same cover template, same footer with handle
  • Thumbnails: consistent crop and title placement (YouTube, Pinterest-style pins)
  • Screenshots: same device frame or crop style if you share product UI
Inconsistency signals "random person posting," not "operator with a system."

Verbal consistency

Your bio, pinned post, and weekly content should sound like the same human. Pick:
  • Formal vs casual — default one step more formal than your DMs
  • Jargon level — match your buyer, not your peers
  • Humor — on or off; mixed signals confuse
Document in Voice and Tone.

Brand vs personal

Approach
When it works
Personal face + nameConsultants, founders, creators
Brand name + logoLocal shop, studio, product
HybridRisky — pick dominant story per platform
Hybrid accounts need extra clarity in bio ("I run X studio").

Do not over-invest early

  • Custom illustrations before product-market fit
  • Animated logo intros on every TikTok
  • Rebrand every quarter because a post flopped
Invest when inbound grows and misalignment actually costs deals.

Brand sanity checklist

  • Avatar matches email signature and website favicon area
  • Link preview (OG image) is not broken generic
  • Hashtag or tagline (if used) appears in under 20% of posts — not every post
  • Client work shown with permission and consistent credit line
Next: Persona and Audience.
