Messaging Pillars

Three repeatable themes that make your account coherent without a new idea every day.

Messaging Pillars

Pillars are the three buckets almost all your content falls into. They prevent "what do I post today?" panic.

Why three

  • One pillar gets repetitive fast
  • Five pillars means you never build depth
  • Three balances variety and focus

Good pillar types

Pillar type
Example (freelance designer)
Problem education"Why your homepage confuses buyers"
Proof / workCase study snapshots, before/after
Process / POV"How I run a discovery workshop"
Pick types that match how your buyers decide — not what competitors post.

Pillar definition template

For each pillar, write:
  • Name (3–5 words)
  • Buyer question it answers
  • Proof you can show (screenshots, metrics, stories)
  • Example post titles (three)

Rotation rhythm

Simple 2-post week:
  • Post 1: Pillar A or B (depth)
  • Post 2: Pillar C or proof (light)
Monthly: each pillar appears at least twice.

Pillar quality test

A pillar is weak if:
  • You cannot list three post ideas in five minutes
  • It sounds like a buzzword ("innovation," "excellence")
  • Your persona would scroll past it
Rename or merge pillars until ideas flow.

Pillars are not hashtags

Hashtags are discovery tactics. Pillars are strategy. You might use zero hashtags and still rotate pillars.
